Serving here.” Deeply rooted in the Abbeville community, Montrio is committed to protecting and advocating for the people and families of the place he calls home.
Montrio is an experienced criminal, civil, and educational litigator who represents clients at all levels of South Carolina State Courts and in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. He is a seasoned courtroom advocate who has successfully tried cases before a jury and is known for his thorough preparation and relentless representation of his clients.
A significant focus of Montrio’s practice is personal injury law, including catastrophic car wreck cases. He represents individuals and families whose lives have been disrupted by serious injuries caused by the negligence of others. Montrio understands the physical, emotional, and financial toll that catastrophic accidents can bring, and he fights aggressively to ensure his clients receive the compensation and justice they deserve. For him, representing injury victims is not just about winning cases—it is about helping neighbors rebuild their lives.
Montrio also brings a unique and powerful perspective to educational law. He represents students and parents in hearings and trials within the court system as well as before local school boards and educational hearing officers. He relentlessly advocates in urgent educational matters such as school expulsions, Special Education Due Process Hearings, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings. As a former school teacher, principal, and South Carolina’s Director of School Transformation, Montrio possesses firsthand knowledge of the educational system and is exceptionally prepared to advocate for students seeking a voice in their education. He is especially passionate about ensuring that children receive the Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) guaranteed under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Many of Montrio’s clients are hardworking members of the community—individuals facing criminal charges, families fighting for their child’s educational rights, or people injured due to someone else’s negligence. Regardless of the case, Montrio approaches each client with compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to results.
Montrio served six years in the United States Army Reserves. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Winthrop University and holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law and is admitted to practice in South Carolina State Courts and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Rooted in Abbeville, Montrio remains committed to the principle that defines the firm:
Born here. Serving here.
